We went into Cambodia not knowing what to expect, and within the first few minutes we knew we were in for a treat. The Khmer people are so friendly and welcoming — they made the trip. Siem Reap is worth at least two weeks: Angkor Wat is right there, and spots like Pub Street make it an easy hub. We didn't want to leave. Phnom Penh is more of a city, but it's full of those same genuine people. We can't wait to go back.

What we'd tell a friend

  1. Give Phnom Penh a couple of days, then settle into Siem Reap for at least two weeks.
  2. Get out to the islands and beaches — they're worth the detour.
  3. Book a day trip with Cowboy Tuk Tuk.

Is Cambodia worth visiting?

Yes. We went in not knowing what to expect and didn't want to leave. The Khmer people are some of the friendliest we've met, and having Angkor Wat right there makes it hard to beat. We can't wait to go back.

How many days do you need in Cambodia?

We'd give it around two weeks — a couple of days in Phnom Penh and the rest in Siem Reap, which is an easy hub with Angkor Wat next door.

Is Cambodia expensive?

No — it's one of the better-value places we've traveled. Your money goes a long way. The one trade-off is that the food isn't as varied as some destinations.

When is the best time to visit Cambodia?

We went in June and had warm, sunny weather with the odd bit of rain. It worked out well for us.
